Wilhelm-Jost-Institut is an independent scientific Institute with an interdisciplinary working group consisting of engineers, chemists, physicists and biologists. This work group concern themself with problems of process engineering and security, the fire and explosion prevention as well as environmental protection.
The eponym of the institute is Mr. Professor Dres. h. C mult. Wilhelm Jost (1903 - 1988), who was one of the first experts of safety engineering.
Prof. Dr. em. rer. nat. H.-G. Schecker was up to his death in 2004 chairman of the board and founder of the William Jost Institute. In addition to his activities at the University of Dortmund he is a member in several German and European committees.
